It's here! Nouveau has arrived! Annually, the third Thursday of November is Beaujolais Nouveau Day, the date when wine retailers worldwide can officially sell the very first wine of the vintage.
The fresh-as-a-baby, swiftly-made Gamay wine was originally produced for vineyard workers celebrating the end of harvest… Light and easy-drinking, it quickly garnered popularity in the region of Beaujolais and nearby Lyon, eventually reaching Paris ~as all things pretty and delicious eventually do.
With a little strategic marketing in the 70's (oh the 70's!) by Beaujolais vigneron, Georges Duboef - it became the phenomenon it is today. Celebrated with great fanfare in France, here in the States the arrival of Nouveau conveniently coincides with our tradition of Thanksgiving (one week prior, to be exact) - and just so happens to pair beautifully with the classic dishes of our harvest feast.
We've put together a Beaujolais Nouveau Sampler Pack featuring one bottle of each of the bottlings we carry. We've brought in the young and old vine Nouveau from Pierre Chermette for the 5th year in a row because we admire their philosophy and integrity, and mostly because we like their wine. Additionally, we started with a new friend, La Pierre Grosse last November. It was a perfectly playful balance to the others.
So these are our three. We love them lots.
Thanks for reading. We'll see you at the shop!
