The board in our March window holds a quote from a song by a man from Belfast; it's a sweet deep track.
Vineyards' bud break is near. Daffodils are peeking through the thawing ground- the Merchants of Third Avenue planted a thousand of them last April- look out for bursts of yellow all around us (a calendar of fun community events, too!).
Yesterday marked the spring equinox- everything is coming back to life; it was actually steadfastly working on coming back to life all during this long, cold, lonely winter- the whole time!
A few weeks ago we enjoyed a visit from Christoph Künzli of Le Piane, the ardent leader of a team of ten in the volcanic soil-rich high hills of Alto Piemonte's Boca, an area once covered in vines, thriving and revered since Roman times, referenced by nobility (and Thomas Jefferson!) as some of the greatest wines alongside Burgundy and Barolo. Alto Piemonte lost most of its community and resources to industrial cities after the Second World War. Its vineyards became forests. Christoph and his team came in and pulled the area's viticulture back from the brink of extinction. They work with an ancient training system called “maggiorina”, plenty of old vines and native varieties like Nebbiolo, Vespolina, and Uva Rara. Also they're nice people, which is part of the terroir, if you ask us. Find various bottlings rolling through our door in the coming weeks.
2024(!) rosés are waltzing in too, one by one, fresh as babies.
New bottlings of Syrah from the Collines Rhodannienes near northern Rhone, new releases of Barolo, Barbaresco, and an old favorite Sagrantino…simply beckoning for lamb.
We released our fifth Dahling Wine Bundle this week, “Expressive Whites"- a thematic four-pack accompanied by descriptions and lifestyle pairings- this one includes books and podcasts and poems (oh my!). The packs include a QR code and everything is online now- we're not dinosaurs anymore (but we still love them)! You'll find more info below.
We have tastings every Friday from 5-7 pm.
We'll see you at the shop!
