We've been wearing thick socks and multiple turtlenecks, warming up from the inside out with Mabel's soup recipes, counting/ dusting/ organizing dear bottles while playing favorite albums, and songs we can't get out of our head, and sometimes just listening to the wind tickle the door.  

 

We planned the year's calendar and assembled February's Dahling Wine Bundle. We sipped Bodega Berroja's “Berroia” Txakolina from the coast of Basque Country's Bay of Biscay, an old whaling port near San Sebastian. It's made in the Bizkaia style- savory and saline with a zip of stand-up-straight energy that we need in these months of grey austerity. 

 

Our window holds spray roses nestled into gold disco balls with smaller versions hanging as ornaments from willow branches in etched-glass vases along with other things in shades of gold because it's close enough to yellow and that's the color of friendship and friendship is the foundation of love and since we celebrate Valentine's Day this month we thought that felt right. 

 

Mary Oliver's “I Have Just Said” is in the window, too. So beautiful! There's a line that really hits- these are the days. It reminds us of this.

 

Oh, also, Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. wrote in his 1966 novel, Mother Night, “When you're dead you're dead…Make love when you can. It's good for you.”
